(the new kid) Likes you-

Imagine you are back in school- and you hear that the new kid (who you have not yet met) likes you-

Then you see them- and there is definitely an attraction…

So the question is: What do you do now- are there things you would change about yourself to impress the ‘new kid’

(would you change your appearance/habits/actions?)

-But wait- I’m getting ahead of myself-

Let’s get back to the part about the ‘new kid’ liking you…

if you believe it- then everything changes.

Enter Belief

Belief changes the whole thing- it changes the way you think about things, the way you feel about yourself and creates an entire atmosphere of possibilities that did not previously exist-

When we believe news reports they change the way we think and perceive- BUT when believe we are liked or even Loved- (sort of an intangible) the change is amazing.

Truth is.. you are Loved.

Jesus loves you (John 3:16 for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life)

Once you choose to believe this- everything changes-

Jesus did not say repent or do this and that- He said believe (in red-!)

Believe is where it all starts and its also where it stays simple-

the Gospel is simple. (not easy) God made it something we could do- believe.

Faith (your capacity to believe) should probably not be measured in quantity of percentage but instead on or off.

‘How much Faith’ vs ‘is your Faith on?’ (on/off is simpler)

Faith and Fear both rely on belief. Both can have great effects in peoples lives-So if you are wondering about ‘how much faith’ just think about ‘how much fear’ and you will realize your potential to believe- I am not trying to say that there is no need for fear- because there are things you really should be concerned about- and I do not want to say that Faith is as simple as a switch that we can turn on and off- But when you first decide to believe (when you begin to understand that in this whole wide unexplainable universe, you are somehow Loved by the creator of all life, who fully knows you and yet fully loves you) -when you begin that belief- its like a switch is thrown and all the lights come on- everything changes- everything makes more sense and there is hope and love and joy and even purpose- When you believe (even a tiny bit) you still get everything. Even if you start with ‘I believe there is something..out there’ etc. That is enough. God can work with that. And He will show you Himself. and you will know.

most people start all of their conversations with God by saying ‘well, God, it’s me…’ (truthfully most of us always say that to God when we talk to Him- even if we have know Him for decades)

God loves this about us, and He is there- and He really likes you-! (you can start with that)

Lost Luggage

Posted by tmark on November 7, 2018
Posted in: Uncategorized. Leave a comment

this is actually about my cell phone totally dying and me losing everything on it.

your cell phone can hold a lot more than just contacts and photos. I had that phone for a few years and I should have seen its demise coming…

the only thing I really miss is the photos (*lame excuse as to why there has not been a follow up to the post about the jeep project)(haha)

20181106_151924

He’s dead Jim…

When my phone ‘bricked’ (nouns becoming verbs: working, functioning rectangular device becomes an unresponsive lump. i.e: Brick) -anyways, when it was a goner, I was shocked and saddened and immediately went through the 5 stages of grief.

But some of the stuff that was lost was stuff that was only weighing me down with sadness- texts and notes and recordings- none of which were doing me any good- and now, they were completely gone….

many of us, carry around bad memories and experiences and it ends up as baggage- and although it happens all the time, it can be very difficult to get rid of.

the ‘baggage’ can become what we identify ourselves by- “you don’t know what I’ve been through…” whether we are victims, survivors or ruthless conquerors, these things affect our opinions and can skew and hinder the way we see ourselves and others.

And- It is really hard to give that stuff up. Positive thinking is not enough. You need to dump that stuff on the only one who can deal with it properly- and that is Jesus. (see John 6:37 & PS 55:22 & 1Peter 5:7 ) And please understand it IS the best thing but it is NOT easy. (but what truly beneficial thing is easy?)

OR- maybe, somehow, something will happen and you will lose your luggage-

either way- you probably did not really need those things anyway- (there is a lot of things you can’t take with you…)

take care dear reader, and know that you are loved. (thanks for reading)IMG_20181101_185756_715

Seasons are not Reasons

Posted by tmark on March 31, 2017

20170330_225401_001

I got this card from spencersmom.com back in 2012 when I was in the hospital and it’s one of my favorites.

This post is about how we often Monday morning quarterback events in our lives and try to fit them into some sort of purpose or reason … when they might just be seasons-

We here in the East Coast, understand seasons- where we live they actually happen and are quite different. They also typically do not start when we expect and often are a little uncertain that they have actually happened and flop back and forth until its halfway over and then they get all reminiscent and display shades of the previous season…

Anyway… seasons are just that. They happen, they’re different and sometimes they are good and pleasant and sometimes they are dark, scary and cold and last longer than we want (sometimes setting or breaking and old record that really does not mean anything)

Once in a while something will happen in your life and you learn something or some other positive thing happens and it’s easy to think that “it must have been for a reason” and sometimes – well, who can really say-

But not everything that happens is attached to ‘a reason’ – it might just be ‘stuff’ that happens. Ecclesiastes 3.1 says: to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.

So, what do we see there? We see God saying that there is seasons for stuff and times for stuff but not reasons-                              (pause and think a minute)

-Now, that is not a bad thing- it can mean that LIFE can be BOTH. – you can learn stuff when you are in different ‘seasons’ and life can be much more spontaneous- and you don’t have homework and stuff to learn every time things change-

I think it’s way better when it’s spontaneous- because this way God can have more expression in your life and you will need Him more and see His hand more as things happen- both good and bad. (of course I do not mean that God does things to mess with people) (if you are new to this blog its important to know that I fully agree with Rabbi Kushner’s book about When Bad Things Happen to Good People– it’s not ‘Why’ bad things happen its ‘When’  because stuff happens.)

I just went thru the big pile of get well cards I got when I had my broken back- and I have great friends who did not try and say that ‘God must be teaching me ….. etc’ When you know Jesus – you can trust that He is the Master of Improv- and He can work with whatever happens- and He will still be amazing and full of grace and love- and it will work out- but I think He enjoys it when its less-structured. We have to let Him be the Show-Off He is – He is GOD.

When I took Existentialism with Professor Dan McCullough, he put a piece of paper over the clock in the classroom with the words ‘RIGHT NOW’ on it. Whenever you looked at the clock you would see ‘RIGHT NOW’ instead of the ‘time’ – (don’t go too deep there- it’s a simple point) Professor Dan also viewed Jesus as the first and greatest existentialist- Jesus was able to see the big picture in all that He did and was never too worried about the future which freed Him to do so much with His life – He was able to be very spontaneous-

It’s the last day of March and how many of your January plans are in motion or have fallen silently away-? Or it’s RIGHT NOW and the future is a blank slate with a God that is far far bigger than any faults we have-

‘what would you do if you were not afraid?’ (quote from the book ‘who moved my cheese’)

-take care dear readers- leave a comment if you like- and thank you.

Measuring-

Posted by tmark on February 27, 2017
Posted in: Uncategorized. Leave a comment

we are absolutely obsessed with measuring things.20170227_192143

time, temperature, calories etc- how much? how many? how long?

and we also compare and measure ourselves by and with each other…

it starts with measuring your height on the door post as you grow and making marks as you get taller- then your cousins come by and start making comparisons and measuring to find out who is the tallest and who is the oldest.. and on and on…

step on any school bus and you will see a remarkable pecking order. (terrifying really, depending on where you end up-) but that’s a whole different therapy session.

If you find yourself high up, on whatever scale your measuring by, you get to rule (pun intended)    -‘give him an inch and he thinks he’s a ruler’-20170227_203820

So, let’s talk about the EQUALIZER…

there is something that brings real stark and shocking equality to all of us.

I am a Christian and a follower of Jesus and it might seem like I would say the equalizer is that “all have sinned-” from Romans chapter 3 … but its not that-

It’s Jesus- He says, ‘All that come to me, I will in no wise cast out‘ (John chapter 6)

while it’s true that all have sinned- and God does not view some sins worse than others- like we do, and God does not measure how many sins you’ve done- one is the same as millions- Yet, when we turn to God and ask for forgiveness- you get the same, ‘immeasurable’ outpouring of grace that comes from Jesus. The bible even says in John 3 that Jesus was full of the spirit…’without measure’

The measuring thing will drive you nuts. You cannot earn God’s love- because He already loves you- (He is not going to stop loving you. -weird right? but- totally true) (Romans 8)

We cannot measure up- and we don’t have to- Jesus measures down to us- and is available to everyone (all) and if you need more Jesus- no problem, just ask.

God told Cain in the garden- if you do what’s right, you will be accepted (so simple)

Jesus came and personally showed the simplicity of the whole message- ‘unless you come like little children…’

February is ending. Crack open that Bible to John and get to know who Jesus really is and what He says for yourself.

there is no sign in heaven that says ‘YOU MUST BE THIS TALL TO ENTER’

Off Truck Bedding

Posted by tmark on January 31, 2017
Posted in: Uncategorized. Leave a comment

The time has come (the statue of limitations has probably run out)truck1

In (about) 1988, I had a pickup truck with a wood side above the bed on one side and tool boxes across the other. It made it so it held lots of stuff and I was always willing to help people move or just move stuff or whatever-

When Karen (not her real name) asked me to help move her mattress and box spring, of course it was no prob-

The setting: january or february and about 19 degrees outside- no wind and about 9 inches of snow on the ground which had been there about a week. Everyone was shoveled out and functioning around the snow and ice. it’s about 730pm and very dark, but quiet on the roads.

It was such a simple plan- pick up the mattress and box spring and follow her to her parents house to get the rest of her stuff and then off to her new place (all pretty close) (too close, really- that’s why nothing was tied down)(!)

Box springs are light and mattresses are really heavy, especially queen size- and we we trying not to drag it in the snow and so I got the box spring on top of the truck bed and then we put the mattress on top (best part:) ‘to hold everything down’

Karen left and we followed- I had my wife and our nephew who was about 3 with me. We got to RT28 (not real name) by the High School (not real place) and a car came by me the other way- as he passed …. someone flashed their lights behind me… but no one was following me..?

It got my attention and I was trying to see the mattress in the rear view but it seemed odd so I stopped. and it was GONE. ‘that’s odd’ I thought- so I turned around and went back.

I had been driving for about 3 minutes and the mattress was gone -there was no noise or anything- but it was GONE

We immediately came across a white Reliant K-Car on the side of the road, stuck in the snowbank and I pulled up in front of him. We got out to help him and realized he was ON TOP OF THE MATTRESS-! The mattress was FOLDED in half and his car was on top of it. I had been really worried about getting snow on the mattress as we carried it out of the house, but now it had been dragged down the road and jammed under the car and the tire is rubbing against it while the kid tries to get un-stuck.

The poor kid- he’s 16 and just got his license and was on his way to the mall in his Mom’s car-and this mattress floats down from the sky onto the road in front of him and he can’t avoid it so: rolls onto it and it folds in half an it takes his front wheels off the ground and his car starts spinning around an then goes into the snowbank-

Now he’s revving the engine and the tires are rubbing the sides of the mattress and I am wondering if Karen would notice the black marks…tire

I am just about to get some rope- I am moving like the Flash at this point- thinking that there might be a chance of getting this mattress out- and a Cop shows up, see’s the situation and asks the kid for his license and it’s almost like it’s the kids fault that he ran over someones mattress (!)(of course I said nothing) Then the Officer gives him some direction on how to get un-stuck… turn the wheel, now try reverse- cut the wheel back the other way…. and then I saw the SMOKE. (not steam, not exhaust but thick white smoke)(yikes)

The kid shut off the car and we opened the hood and realized that the muffler was up against the mattress and there was much more smoke- so, the officer called the Fire Dept.

‘Rescue 6’ was the brand new, high tech, Fire Truck that showed up along with a pumper truck and 4 burly Firemen- and another Police car. It was a quiet night and not much else was happening so, I stopped trying to help and just stood quietly watching all the lights from the trucks bounce off the snow and nearby houses with my wife and our 3 year old nephew who thought the lights were cool- and none of us seemed to notice the cold- except maybe the 16 year old kid who was really worried about his Mom’s car- we stood a little ways away from him.

The Firemen had a great plan and lots of new equipment to try out. They were thrilled- They would raise the car with the new air jacks (like flat squares that inflate and can move or lift lots of weight with ease) -then another Fireman would pull the mattress out with a giant hook while the third Fireman would saturate it with the hose –hook

It was amazing- the jacks worked very fast with no noise and then it took a couple of Firemen with hooks to pull the mattress out. Those sharp hooks torn deep holes into it and as they pulled it out into the snow- it burst into flames. The other Fireman blasted it to kingdom come with water and the other Firemen tore it to shreds as more flames kept showing up- they tore, it flared and they soaked and tore some more and more flames showed up and then more water etc. Until it was just wet little fist size, clumps of scorched fluff.

They Officer got the kids name and then let him go and he drove off. As the Firemen were packing up the gear one of them came over to me and my wife and small nephew and asked, with tons of care and compassion…. ‘Do you folks have a place to sleep tonight?’ and I paused and said…’yes, thank you, we will be ok’fire

That was about it, and no one ever asked my name or took down any numbers and off we went to Karen’s parents house an hour and a half late.

We showed up and Karen thought it was odd that we were not right behind her but was chatting with her folks and just waited. (things were different before cell phones) We tried to explain what had happened and she was not mad- if you know Karen (again, not her real name) she laughs at everything- its a beautiful gift. She sort of did not believe us so we drove back to the scene of the crime- and found the whole area lit with yellow flashing lights from 3 sanding trucks that had been called because of all the water the Fire Dept had used was icing up like crazy.

We had employed lots of town workers that evening. The cold weather continued for 2 more weeks and finally the snow melted and I would drive by and look for any pieces of the mattress but because it had been so completely obliterated there was nothing but a couple of Kleenex size clumps.

It was almost like it melted away with the snow……

or it could be that none of this ever really happened and I made it all up- (it’s a good story)

Aluminum Blonde and Dorian Gray Hair Color for Men

Posted by tmark on January 9, 2017
Posted in: Uncategorized. Tagged: aluminum blonde, Aluminum Blonde Hair, Aluminum Blonde Hair Color, Dorian Gray Hair Color for Men, Dorian Gray Hair Dye, Dorian Grey Hair Colour for Men, Dorian Grey Hair Dye. Leave a comment

I found a gray hair the other day- (shock) But it was my dog Mozzie’s.

20170109_210704

Then I got to thinking- and google-ing and I found out that, although I have been saying my hair color was out of a bottle (for years)(I have been adding the white highlights) and I said I was ‘aluminum blonde’ (copyright pending) …. turns out, that no one has EVER used that name as a hair product color (!)

until right now (or earlier, actually if you are reading this later)

Same thing with Dorian Gray Hair Dye (apologies to Oscar Wilde) Of course it would be Dorian GrEy (note the different spelling to avoid lawsuit) Dorian Grey Hair Dye (or Hair Color -or-Colour!) Whatever- I am claiming these ‘phrases-perhaps coining these phrases as of right now (Jan 2017) –

20170109_210555

Aluminum Blonde

It is done. Google it-! there it is (right?)

ok, there is an instrumental band that has a song called ‘Aluminum Blonde’ BUT not a hair product.

If you are a manufacturer of hair thingys and you did not read this until I came after you with this hefty lawsuit- you should have googled when you had the chance.

I did not intend to have to do this because I thought this stuff was snatched up long ago- but because it wasn’t- I was forced to stake my claim.

Ok, so now that that’s done, ….. uhm….

you do know who Dorian Gray is-? (right?) It’s part of the joke- see, he does not age and he has this painting of him that does age (even tho he looks youthful, his painting is aging like crazy and he has to keep it hidden) ANYWAY- that’s why it needs to be a product for men who dye their hair- (the Oscar Wilde book is called The Painting of Dorian Gray) (you do not need to read it-  just told you the whole thing)(sheesh)

Trendsetter that I am- I do not dye my hair and MAYBE that’s why cool men like me are not dyeing their hair- hmmm. This could effect sales.

All the young girls dyeing their hair gray would probably not buy the Dorian GrEy either because, technically they are going for ‘ash blonde’ (google it) hmmm.

well, better safe than sorry. I own the names (now) so get ready to pay-

ok, take care- next blog is going to be about the famous ‘off-truck bedding incident’

*titanium blonde was already taken. (believe me, I checked)

Restoration part 1

res·to·ra·tionˌ  restəˈrāSH(ə)n/  noun20160830_225428
  1. 1. the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition.

It all starts with the eye of the beholder- seeing something and having compassion (for whatever reason) to take action. The beholder has seen value- perhaps something that no one else would even have noticed. You are special. You have things about you that are admirable and good and useful and you may have had some things go wrong, break or even be destroyed- but you are worth fixing and restoring. You are Loved. John 3:16 ‘For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’20160830_230403

1 Aquisition: You buy it or you already own it- but its really when you are in a position to take it apart- to get involved- to put your hands on it -ownership.(Matt 13:44 ‘…like a treasure hid in a field; which when a man hath found, he goes and sells all he has and buys it.’)

2 Inspection: how bad is it (really) – you might have glanced at it and seen potential – you may have even thought ‘its not that bad’ (haha) Now the lights are on- reality sets in.. But, because you have already made the decision to restore it won’t matter how bad it is- -God sees us as we are and yet, chose us and is willing to do whatever it takes to help and heal us. Psalms 139:23 ‘Search me O God and know my my heart, try me and know my thoughts’

3 The Project Begins: its not pretty and it will probably get a lot worse- at least worse looking- (more photos later- ) but what is important is that the project has begun. When Jesus begins the work in your life- you have already won- Jesus paid the whole price and once you surrender- the work is both completed and in process (pretty cool -huh) Philipians 1:6  ‘Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ’

#staytuned (but it will probably be longer than you think- or than I think- it always feels that way- like it takes forever- at least until we get to the real Forever part)

the bounce

Posted by tmark on July 12, 2016
Posted in: the blog, Uncategorized. Tagged: #castingcrowns, #falling, #recovery, Medtronic. 2 Comments

four years ago this month I fell (pretty seriously) but- I bounced.

10152012_WileECoyote1_article mid air

My hope is that you will see parallels in this post to events that happen in your own life and it will help you- it may not apply to everyone and I hope things do not happen to you -but- there is randomness in the universe and you are a living person with a free will and there is risk involved in living.

–‘things that don’t kill you, -hurt like hell’ (I just made that up)

let’s consider the bounce in 3 stages. A, 2 and III.

A. the fall / drop / leap

‘the fall’ is when its just you- something goes wrong with you. you slipped, you trip, you fumble, you find yourself in mid air- (and are suddenly surprised)

‘the drop’ is when things around you happen- you hear bad news, things change unexpectedly, things you never thought would happen start happening, everything around you goes into motion and you find yourself in mid air-

‘the leap’ is when you decide to try something- you make up your mind and do it, you prepare for it, you consider the consequences but decide you can beat the odds, you might even be part of a team or even leading the team and…. off you go, – and you find yourself in mid air- (although it might be exhilarating)

wilee-280x210

WileE b4 i hit

2. the impact / crash / fail to land

this is the bad part- it is not pretty- and in slow motion it is horrifying.

bulb impact

depending on what you hit can make a huge difference too- sometimes you might even leave a dent- you might break whatever you land on- you might go right through the first few layers of stuff before you finally collide with something solid-

many times this impact effects you too- you become mis-shapen, your structure is affected or broken or cracked and a lot of things change forever – the reality of the falling part is over and the changes really set in- you are hitting the bottom, and its hard and unforgiving- it is un-moved by the past, before you were in mid-air.

sometimes as you are hitting the bottom- some things that fell with you start landing on top of you and around you and it feels like there will be no turn-around at all- everything is broken and wrecked and may not ever be fixable-

III. the turn around / re-direction / rebound

But- at some small point in this- you realize- ‘you did not die’

now you will have to do something- you will have to go on-

this whole idea of ‘bounce’ does not feel at all like it sounds. It sounds so quick and painless and even possible (especially if you are just trying to encourage someone) -but when its you- and you have all this broken stuff and your whole side is flat from the impact and all the things you had counted on are busted beyond repair or completely missing and the reality of trying to go on is heavy and slow and even if you have a lot of help- it can be very hard- its hard because things are now different- and different is tough because we have all this previous stuff to compare it to-

People often comment that time seems to slow down during a fall and things happen in slow motion- I know that I did not realize I had fallen until I was zooming through the air and I thought… “that’s odd…- oh wait a minute-! I’m falling! -that means I’m gonna…”

-WHAM!

crater

time at this point stretched itself outup- into minute by minute segments and continued for a few months like this- there was no ‘bounce’ apparent at this point. It’s probably more like you have to crawl out of whatever crater you made on impact and you are just trying to get back to the surface-I started to keep a journal when I got out of the hospital- many many days it just says what time I got up and maybe how I felt (in like 2 or 3 words) but eventually I had entries about dressing myself and then an entry about how I would eventually stop making entries- and not to worry because I was getting better.

Rabbi Kushner (when bad things happen to good people) says that it is kind of a trap to fall into trying to figure out ‘why’ things have happened and we may never know until we see God- the thing is, – you are alive- (broken, battered, bruised, confused, missing parts and perhaps even alone-) but you’re alive-

so, ask yourself in an old-time radio announcer voice… ‘is this the end of….. (insert your name here)?

then say “stay tuned for tomorrows exciting episode….” because you really have no idea whats next. You just can’t imagine or picture what recovery looks like. It’s hard to explain, but it does happen- you just don’t quite know what the new you will be like -but- you will be much more gracious and loving and you will have such a better perspective on whats really important-

and you will probably overdo it in physical therapy and hurt yourself-(you will figure that out) But then ……

mr-bounce-628x471-380x285

you are slowly on the way back- in fact once you are out of all your medical equipment- you look normal- (but you are not) you really still have a ways to go- and it can be scary- but this is part of bouncing- you end up back in the air!

this can feel like falling all over again- and you kind of are- hopefully you only bounce a few times- (yes, fall-impact-bounce-fall-impact-bounce- repeat etc.) this could be you just trying to get off the stupid medicine you have to take-

it stops after a couple of years (honestly)

During all of this Jesus is watching you and probably wondering why we don’t turn more stuff over into His hands- we are so busy trying to hold on-

Just because something happened to you- it does not mean that Jesus cannot be trusted- in fact you will see more of Jesus after something happens to you because you will realize so much more about life- and you will see that He was always there-

‘you’re not alone, stop holding on and just be held’- Casting Crowns – Just Be Held (check out this very helpful song)

Bottom Line: I am truly better off than I have ever been. I am more blessed than I have ever been- and I love my family and friends more than ever. So- I guess it is fair to say that I have bounced… and the truth is that I did not do it alone- of course there is Jesus- but also I would like to thank all my very supportive friends an family who cared for me and prayed for me- I am a result of all your care. Thank you all, very much.

*a word about spouses: it is harder for a spouse to go through whatever has happened- they care about you and are not always able to help and9 then have to go to the doctor with you and hear all the news and the list of things that you are not supposed to do and then go home with you and watch you break every rule and disobey all the doctors orders and then- listen to you complain that you are not getting better! – have mercy on your spouse.

#nofilter

Posted by tmark on May 27, 2016

20160525_153511#nofilter- just pure, un-messed with, what-you-see-is-what-you-get, this is how it is, straight-up truth, the real deal, un-cut, un-opinionated, un-biased and untouched in any way.

and yet… its so much harder than it sounds.

Our perceptions of things are all ‘filtered’ through our own experiences. Our lives have made us who we are and we have been shaped by so many things. Things we have been told, things we have done, things we have believed and things we have seen all swirl around at millions of miles an hour in our brains constantly and we use all those resources to make ‘sense’ of where we are and what we are thinking and feeling.

So our perceptions filter things all the time as we receive inputs, and our brains can ‘see’ a lot of things that may or may not be real- they way someone says something- the way someone looks at you-

(and that’s just our side of the story)

As people do and say things- they might be ‘filtering’ things a certain way- ‘painting a different picture’ or ‘putting a different slant, spin or face on things- couching things and adding subtle subliminal messages to nuance the situation, etc’

Then consider, the different and changing meanings of words and expressions….- and then there are different languages , and then try to imagine translating things (!) …. (you get the picture) (see Malcolm Gladwell, Blink (great book)

Communication could seem impossible… but its not.

It’s just mostly impossilbe. (like ‘mostly dead’ from Princess Bride)

Gods Love. Its is poured out everywhere throughout creation- we have the ability to see beauty in lots of different ways- God put all that there for us to experience- and then He visited mankind in Jesus to make it even clearer.

It’s too simple for us-

Our filters do too much and we cannot ‘see’ what should be obvious.

But children understand – remember when you were little – you had no problem believing in God or believing that He loves you…

Jesus said  “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” (Luke 18:17)

What is up with all our complications? Are we smarter now that we have ‘filtered’ and ‘complicated’ things?

Gods Love has not changed. -if you are reading this- you can still get closer to God. God is so pure that He is the definition of #nofilter. His love for you is almost terrifying. It is so complete – that’s why we try to ‘busy ourselves’ and do things because we are hiding from Him. (even Christians do this) (even I do this)

So- I am gonna try to surrender more and yield more and put away more of whatever silly things have been ‘busying’ my time and life and stop making excuses for the way I am and get real with my creator who does not filter His love for me, but pours it out freely.

take the #nofilter challenge-

Pray: Jesus, thank you for your love for me and I am sorry for all I have done to clutter up my life- help me to make you Lord in my life and change my inner man to be more like you, so that I can be a clear representation of You. (my dear friend, Bobbi Lawhon said ‘I might be the only ‘Bible’ people ‘read’ and I want to represent Christianity as something that is desirable, attainable and achievable’)

thank you.

Five weeks old

I have owned one dog- (borrowed, really) Her name was Thumbalina and she was a Great Dane- all black and she did not have her ears done-so, she looked like a black lab (a big one) until she moved around, and then she was like a piano moving around (except faster)

I’ve been married for 30 years and we just had some significant birthdays so I suggested getting the puppy we have been talking about for a year- I found a breeder here on the Cape and in early March we went to pick out a puppy. (here is the link)

We chose the Australian Shepherd & Labrador mix known as Aussidors

We had 4th pick of 9 puppies -but it occurred to me that we could get 2 puppies- Why not? I’ve never had a puppy and my wife never had a puppy and -they can play together and -they will keep each other company and -they will be so cute together- So we did. Two puppies.

Some people tried to warn us- but where were they when I was on my way to see these cuties? (I’m glad they weren’t with us!)

We got these 2 cute puppies and named them Quinn (short for quinquagenarian) (Quinn-qua-gin for short or Quinn-binn) and Mozzie (aka mozz,  Captian Black Leg, mozzle-nozzle, mozzel-tov, mozzie-mittens, mozzie-mayhem, pasta-mozzule, rasta-pasta-mozzule and like one more nickname each day)(as a tribute to Dave Thompson the great nick-namer)

Mozzie

Quinn is definitely more Lab than Shepherd and acts a lot like a dog- Mozzie is more Shepherd and acts like a little Jewish mother- keeping an eye on Quinn and saying stuff like: ‘don’t put that in your mouth- don’t touch that- get back over here, you’re going to hurt yourself- etc)

Quinn has one blue eye (common among Aussies) and we heard that it is good luck because, according to Native American legend, it will ward off evil spirits- but, so-far it just seems to be warding off ‘brains’. Aussies are known as ‘really smart dogs’ so I put up a copy of the periodic table by their crate but, they don’t seem to care.

Dogs view the family as a pack and blend in and find their place etc- in our ‘pack’ each puppy thinks that the pack has all the family members and ‘a dog’ (they both think the other one is the dog)

Camouflage Training

Sharing your Life with a Dog-

God arranged Dog’s lifespans so that we could have many dogs in our one life. Although your dog is in your life for a short time, relatively speaking, your dogs whole life is spent with you. (whoa, mind=blown)

God actually made animals first- (think about that) -He probably used to hang out with the animals and play with all of them. Rabbi Kushner interprets Gen 1:26 in context with the animals, God makes the animals and then says- lets make a new thingy- part teeth, hair,  eyeballs etc, like you animals and part ME- Spirit. Kind of a special ‘hybrid’- flesh and spirit in one thingy- let’s call it :”Man”. Then he let Man name the animals (like letting your kids name their pets- kinda cute actually)

So- we are now sharing our lives with a couple of cute, ‘wild’ animals. We brought them to a puppy orientation class- and they slept thru it (on our laps) We are committed to training up these wonderful little doggies and we have stacks of books and advice flowing in upon us-

‘therapy dogs’ -oh, ya- these puppies are ‘therapy’. They started right away by putting us on an early morning ‘face-the-day-while-its-still-dark’ schedule to break us of any comfort and old habits- then they love us to death and make us laugh out loud.

God is using them to enhance my life and I am grateful. (everybody in the Bible had animals) #prettycool

PS; I feel like my Mom, up in Heaven, is happy for me- (she would probably even want to hold them-! (and all my cousins and aunts and uncles laughed!) I know my Dads happy-
